Resume construction (U.S. format, impact bullets)
In the U.S., a resume is a marketing document, not a biography. It should usually be only one page. Do not include a photo, your birthday, or your home country. U.S. law forbids companies from hiring based on these things, so they might throw your resume away just to be safe. Use the 'X-Y-Z' formula. Instead of saying 'I coded a website,' say: 'Developed a website (X) that handled 500 users daily (Y) using React and Node.js (Z).' This tells the boss exactly how much value you bring.
As an international student, you have a hidden requirement, you need a visa. Applying to a company that doesn't sponsor is like trying to buy a car at a grocery store, they just don't sell what you need.
- Use a site like H1BGrader.com. Look for companies that have hired international students before. Big companies like Google, Amazon, and the Big Four accounting firms have thousands of visa holders. Focus your energy on them because they already have the lawyers to help you.
