Giving Back & Legacy
Become a mentor
You don't need to be a CEO to mentor. If you're a Senior, mentor a Junior. Look for people in the position you were 2 years ago—offer resume reviews or mock interviews. Teaching helps you master skills, and the person you mentor becomes a 20-year contact. Keep an emergency 'Red Folder' with $1,500-2,000 for flights, visa copies, and lawyer contacts.
This is the most important "trick" in the U.S. Many people make the mistake of asking for a job the first time they meet someone. That feels like taking. You want to be a giver.
- Before you ask for help, try to be helpful.
- If you see an interesting news article, email it to them: "I saw this and thought of our talk!"
- Give them a genuine compliment on their work: "I read your latest project report, and it was really helpful for my class."
- When you eventually ask for a referral, they will be happy to say Yes because you have already shown that you are a kind and thoughtful person.

3) Family & Cross-Border Reality
Building a life in the U.S. while your heart and family are in another country is a Cross-Border Reality. It is a heavy emotional and financial weight. If you don't manage it correctly, you might feel guilty or overwhelmed, which can hurt your career.
Think of yourself like an airplane: you must put on your own oxygen mask before you can help the people sitting next to you. Here is how to support your family without losing your own balance.
